I had the pleasure and honour of working with Trish over 2 days with my former school. Over these days, Trish took us on a tremendously personal journey towards deepening our understanding of indigenous culture through her Plenty Stories and Crossing Cultures Hidden Histories resources. Our time with Trish was the perfect blend of knowledge-building and curriculum planning and exploring. As a staff, Trish immediately made us feel comfortable and no questions were off limits. Because of her personable demeanour we weren't afraid to admit our own deficiencies in understanding. Trish led us through building on our own individual knowledge of indigenous history, particularly through amazing personal stories. These stories will stay with us forever, particularly that of her dear father, that left not a dry eye in the room. Trish also ensured that we spent time working on ways of embedding indigenous perspectives throughout curriculum areas. It was liberating to be given the freedom to explore ways of teaching about indigenous history and culture with someone who was not only so easy to work with but who was able to empower us to continue this crucial work long after our time with Trish ended. I have no hesitation in recommending Trish to anyone wanting to learn more about embedding indigenous perspectives in their work. You will not find a more engaging and collegial speaker.
